I have listened carefully to the position that the JLP has taken if they should form the next Government of Jamaica. The education issue is clear. All children will receive free, quality education at the primary and secondary levels. To date, no mention has been made of the fate of tertiary students.
Now I would think that the Jamaica Labour Party, knowing fully well that the majority of the tertiary student population is of voting age, would address this concern that some people may have. What will happen to tertiary students? Will you continue to finance 80% of tuition? As it is, most tertiary students in Jamaica cannot even find the 20% they are expected to pay so can you imagine the chaos in September, IF the JLP wins? You may have to find 100% tuition. That means you better save up to go to the HEART institute as that is the only place you will be able to afford. Personally I think that the Students Loan Bureau is a FARCE. It serves to inhale taxpayers’ money and lend it to persons who cannot pay back until 5 years later……now if they would barely lend the average student 20%, why the hell would they be lending even 80% to POOR people?
I think UWI students better start fretting because if the JLP forms the next government…..DOG NYAM YUH SUPPA. Factory work for you!
