Miss Lisa Hanna

31 08 2007

Now people…Jamaican Girl has not been a fan of Miss Lisa Hanna ever since Sista P imposed her on some constituents a few months ago. The matter was not handled properly and I have disussed that in previous posts.

However, I do not think that Miss Hanna deserved this kind of “address” from her opponent, Peter Fahkourie. I took it personally as a woman. There was no need for this kind of outburst. Also, I do not agree with Mr. Golding’s degeneration of women who dance or work in a night club. To begin with, it is better than being a criminal. Some of these women have mouths to feed and this puts food on the table. Does it mean then that if you work in a night club you do not stand a chance in hell in becoming a part of the government? Sorry gentlemen, I have to say thumbs down to you on this one!

Most of Jamaica was outraged as indicated by the scores of calls to talk shows regarding this matter! I have taken a very dim view on the matter and I think a public apology is in order.

Mr.Peter Fakhourie’s outburst, tirade and negative comments regarding Ms. Lisa Hanna was totally and categorically wrong and should be seen and considered as unacceptable. As a political candidate with aspirations for Gordon House, Mr. Fakhourie needs to exhibit a more civil, rational, decent and respectful behavior vis-a-vis his opponents, especially female opponents.Hopefully, an apology is or will be forthcoming with respect to Ms. Hanna from Mr.Fakhourie or from the JLP hierarchy. I am not too concerned or significantly interested in Ms. Hanna’s political ambitions, objectives and aspirations. Specifcally, in terms of how she was foisted or imposed on S.E.St. Ann. Notwithstanding, one is of the perspective that the coarseness and vile behaviour and conduct meted out to her via Mr.Fakhourie is/was totally unnecessary.Civility and decency in Jamaican politics is not going to be realized in the short to medium term,as a consequence of our political culture, but it is an objective which is essentially worth striving for.RESPECT !!

Well I am guessing that based on the outcry and the demand for an apology from Mr Golding for his nightclub comment that my comments will not sit well with many. It was an insensitive comment (I thank J’cangirl for posting the ad so I could relisten before blogging) but if he had said instead “People who all dem can do is wear expensive outfits and fly all over the world spending taxes, should join Pulse” would it have been as offensive??? He apparently sees her as not working, not performing, not taking her job as seriously he thinks it should be taken and he sees all the energy she is putting into campaigning not by taking on issues on the stage but driving up the hype by dancing and prancing “like a nightclub dancer” as offensive to HIM. That is what dancers do. I think its better he apologize as it has apparently offended many but I can’t understand the amount of energy this issue has brought. Had he suggested she go join the NDTC would it have earned this much wrath….maybe our own biases and social stigmas are showing. What I want to hear more of is balanced criticism as so much more has been said on both sides of the campaign that should offended us to the point of action but has not inspired this much effort. If i am off track then I submit my apology in advance. Bless you all.

I recently heard Delory Chuck on Mutty Perkins’ show saying that Mr. Golding did not say she was a Go Go Dancer and I was most disappointed that Mr. Chuck, one of the most respected JLP candidates (in my eyes), would jump on the air and defend that comment by Bruce Golding. In fact, he said that Mr. Golding did NOT say that she was a Go Go, which is true, but he also said that Mr. Golding was insinuating that she should go and enjoy a nightclub experience like how you and I would go out to dance with friends. That is so not true. The ad speaks for itself. It was disrespectful and one of the things that I think is not understood here, is that Jamaica comprises mainly women as household heads. it was like a slap in the face to women who have to work hard to put food on the table for their kids. I am not a mother but I can only imagine that if one is a single mother, one would pull out all the stops to ensure that a child is fed. Yes, it may not be the most desirable of careers but I feel that it is better than becoming a criminal. That is just my view. They should have handled the matter better than that.

I did not hear Chucks comment but I find that attempt pathetic and insulting to my intelligence and even more offensive. But its not Delroy on the blog “defending” him, I have shared how I see it and I truly don’t think we would have rallied as much if he had compared her to an NDTC dancer. He is looking for a simile to compare where she is putting her energy and regrettably he did not choose, an NDTC dancer or an Ashe dancer but a nightclub dancer. Should he have compared her dancing to a lawyer’s or a dentist?? I dunno. But again lets demand more of an apology from an MP who says publicly if you don’t vote for Kern you won’t get water, lets demand an apology from one who compares a hard working MP hopeful as Tufton to Satan, or even one who compares our Prime Minister to Jezebel of the Bible. I think this one is not as big a deal as we are making of it. Did we get an apology or demand the seat of the MP who admitted to spending money to win an election and being prepared to fix the problem he create later rather than allow the JLP to be inside the govt fixing it themselves. Oh boy those offend me far more.

Jea….Be careful how you comment on advrts..that has been cut and pasted to confuse you.The justice minister made those two statements independent of each other .the ad put them together to discredit him…The same with quite a few of the JLP ads.
You are cbviously sucked in by the deceit.
It was discovered on your issues live ..that the people of Portmore were misled by the opposition leader about plans for a rail service,he misled the nation just last week on the state of emergency issue and had to backtrot when he was asked on radio? He and Audley made different statements on important issues in the debate and they were both misleading us on amount of money allocated for roads? How many more issues have we been misled that has not yet been revealed ?..just for power. At least ,I know the evils of the party in office and as far as I can see ,The Prime Minister has a lot more to get right quickly than the other side. They can mess up and continue to blame her for it,she does’nt have that safety net.
The Latest is their arrogance in banding about the statement that says Michael Manley passed the country on to the yard boy..and now him pass it on the maid!!!!!!! HELLO!!
We fought hard to get to this place of equality and this is what we are going back to..God Help Jamaica.

I bow respectfully to those who are sufficiently able to share with me what the JLP of the past is capable of. I was not quite at the level of awareness to understand the issues then but I certainly have been aware of the last 18 years. I gotta say though BD that that comment by Min of Justice is nothing new to me. It is not a election manipulation of film. I rarely watch the news but I can recall with ease when Kern was being introduced to Roger Clarke’s consistuency when the news carried that item and I remember my shock. It is that level of arrogance that allows him to feel comfortable enough with how ORANGE this country is that he feels he not need to check himself. But out of the heart the mouth speaks. How would you explain why it was carried a few months ago on the news if it were a JLP creation?

Bevy D I hear you about the inconsistencies but I have heard enough of those for 18 years to recognize that this election is not about choosing the best party but the lesser of two evils. The last time I voted for the argument “betta we stick to the evil we know”. I still have 22 hours to decide if that is good enough. Somedays I feel frightened for the future but just as how you ended your comment I say God Will Help Jamaica.
